Are you equally comfortable shaping the story behind a broadcast and calling the action from the gallery?
Racing.com is seeking a Producer/Director to play a pivotal role in delivering Australia's premier racing coverage. This is a unique dual-craft position designed for a broadcast professional who thrives in both editorial leadership and live production environments. One day you'll be producing compelling content and driving the editorial narrative; the next you'll be directing live racing coverage and bringing the broadcast to life from the control room.
About Us
Racing.com is part of the Racing Victoria Group – bringing together Racing Victoria, Racing.com Media and Thoroughbred Racing Productions to promote and grow Victorian thoroughbred racing. Our vision is to ensure Victorian racing remains the beating heart of Australian racing and a leading force in sports and entertainment.
The Opportunity
At the centre of Racing.com's live product, the Producer/Director is responsible for planning, shaping and executing premium racing coverage across studio, on-course and outside broadcast productions. The role exists to turn world-class racing into compelling content that audiences want to watch, return to and talk about.
Unlike traditional broadcast roles, this position combines producing and directing expertise into one dynamic opportunity.
You'll:
- Lead the editorial shape, flow and execution of live and pre-recorded programming.
- Produce and direct racing broadcasts across a variety of Racing.com production types.
- Develop compelling storylines that hero the horse, jockey, trainer and owner.
- Plan broadcasts from end-to-end, including rundowns, scripts, talent briefings and resource coordination.
- Direct on-air talent to maximise engagement, flow and storytelling.
- Work collaboratively with digital, social and editorial teams to deliver a unified content strategy.
- Identify opportunities to enhance audience engagement and continually improve the live product.
- Deliver outside broadcasts and marquee event coverage to a premium standard.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for a highly organised and adaptable broadcast professional who combines technical expertise with strong editorial instincts.
You'll have:
- Experience producing and/or directing live television broadcasts, ideally within sport or racing.
- Strong editorial judgement and storytelling capability.
- Experience developing rundowns, scripts and live broadcast narratives.
- Confidence leading talent, crews and stakeholders in high-pressure environments.
- Strong knowledge of live-production workflows, gallery operations and broadcast standards.
- Exceptional planning, communication and project-management skills.
- The ability to remain calm, decisive and solutions-focused under pressure.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to working as part of a high-performing team.
Who You Are
You are:
- A genuine dual-skilled broadcaster who can seamlessly switch between producing and directing.
- Passionate about racing and live sport.
- An excellent communicator who believes preparation drives performance.
- Proactive, accountable and always looking for ways to improve the product.
- Curious, innovative and focused on delivering premium-quality content.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced environments where no two race days are the same.
Why This Role Stands Out
This is much more than a control-room role.
You'll help shape how Australia's leading racing broadcaster tells its stories, builds audience engagement and showcases the biggest moments in Victorian racing. Working alongside editorial, social, digital and commercial teams, you'll play a key role in delivering a modern, connected content experience where broadcast and digital work hand-in-hand.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Broadcasting, Media Production, Journalism or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
- Demonstrated experience in live broadcast production and/or direction.
- Availability to work weekends, feature race meetings and night racing.
- Current driver's licence.
- Willingness to travel regionally and interstate for outside-broadcast coverage.
